ChatGPT as a tool for recruitment preparation.
Norbert Wieczorek 09.01.2023
For some time now, there has been a lot of buzz about ChatGPT. For many, it's a tool for having fun, where you can play with a bot to generate funny and abstract stories. There is also another camp that is seriously terrified of the capabilities of this tool, especially in programming, because it is so good and fast that many fear the profession of a programmer will have to undergo major changes and, who knows, significant staff reductions. Either way, both camps will certainly agree that this is a tool that offers great possibilities, and I would like to show you how this tool can help you in your current or future recruitment process.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a tool based on the GPT-3 (Generative Pre-training Transformer 3) model developed by OpenAI, which is used for generating text. ChatGPT specializes in providing responses to questions and comments in a manner that is natural for humans, making it an ideal tool for conversational applications, such as chatting with a customer or interviewing job candidates.
How can ChatGPT help you in the recruitment process?
If you are a job candidate, ChatGPT can help you better prepare for a real meeting with an employer or recruiter. You can create a conversation simulation using ChatGPT and see how you respond to different questions and situations. This will allow you to improve your skills and better showcase your qualifications during a real interview.
ChatGPT can also help you prepare answers to frequently asked questions during a job interview, allowing you to better prepare for the meeting and present your skills more effectively. It is easy to determine the level of advancement of the interview questions or what they should be about, and in a fairly intuitive way, you can figure out how to interact with the bot to generate questions and answers that will satisfy you. Below, you can see roughly how it might look. Of course, there's nothing stopping you from asking for answers to any specific questions or requesting explanations or alternative ways of posing a question.
Personally, I also recommend https://beta.openai.com/playground, which is a tool created by the same creators but more focused on writing stories, etc. Using it in this example looks something like this:
Everything within the green box is an answer generated by artificial intelligence. I definitely recommend doing this in English because it seems that the bot handles that language much better, but I preferred to provide the Polish version to avoid mixing in Anglicisms in this article.
What other applications can ChatGPT have?
Staying within the recruitment topics, the bot can help optimize code in our portfolio or check why something is not working in the code (in which case, Stack Overflow doesn't have to be the last resort :)). Moreover, ChatGPT can be used to answer user questions on our website or Facebook page; generate content for ads or articles; and acquire knowledge on various topics, such as cooking, history, etc.
Dangers lurking for users
It is easy to imagine that such a powerful technology will have some "side effects." Cooperation with this tool requires a constant dose of skepticism because sometimes it describes things with great conviction and certainty, even when the bot has no idea about the given topic.
Another significant problem is the vision that people who don't have much knowledge about programming can now create malware that, for example, can crack passwords or credit card data. Probably, SPAM in our inbox will no longer be a poorly translated jumble of words but a message that looks very realistic, making it easier to fall for (not so) suspicious emails and click where we shouldn't, exposing ourselves to complications.
Summary
ChatGPT has definitely made a big splash on social media in late 2022. It is a tool that will set new standards in the near future and is definitely groundbreaking. Mastering this tool can speed up the work of many people, which is why it's worth familiarizing yourself with it to not let the competition get ahead.
